5G communication base station power supply project

Project overview

Provides integrated AC power distribution, switching power supply, battery backup, and dynamic environment monitoring solutions for 80 5G macro base stations in Sumatra to ensure stable operation of the base stations 24/7.

Indonesia fit

The base station power supply has been upgraded from a single equipment purchase to a delivery package of "mains access + rectifier module + lithium battery backup + dynamic environment monitoring + remote after-sales" to solve the problems of remote site selection, delivery and maintenance radius; the modular power supply facilitates Telkomsel's subsequent expansion according to carriers, and the Indonesian language alarm interface and local spare parts library reduce the recovery time of station outages.

Professional configuration and standards

AC input adapts to 230/400V, 50Hz, the DC bus adopts -48V communication power supply architecture, the rectifier module efficiency is not less than 96%, the battery uses lithium iron phosphate and is equipped with BMS, temperature compensation and lightning protection grounding; the cabinet complies with IEC 62368, IEC 60529, IEC 61643 and SNI/PUIL Installation requirements are implemented, and high and low temperature cycles, insulation withstand voltage, lightning surge and 8-hour discharge tests are completed.

Delivery challenges and solutions

a.Challenge: Most base stations are located in remote mountainous areas, where the mains power supply is unstable and frequent outages affect communication quality.

Solution: Using high-frequency and high-efficiency switching power supply + lithium iron phosphate battery, the backup time is increased to 8 hours, suitable for high temperature environments, and the battery life is extended by 2 times.

b.Challenge: The sites are scattered and numerous, so manual inspection and operation and maintenance costs are high, and fault detection lags behind.

Solution: Deploy a dynamic environment monitoring platform to remotely check voltage, current, and battery status, proactively alert on faults, and reduce operation and maintenance costs by 50%.

c.Challenge: 5G equipment consumes high power, and some original base stations have insufficient power distribution capacity.

Solution: Adopting a modular power distribution design, existing base stations can be expanded and renovated easily, and the construction period is shortened by 60%.

Project results

The online rate of base stations has increased to more than 99.9%, and the duration of station outages has been shortened by 60%. The cost of battery replacement has been reduced by 50% on average annually. The number of base stations managed by a single operation and maintenance personnel has increased by 3 times.
