In 2026, the 100,000-kilowatt floating photovoltaic power station in Kalangkades, East Java, Indonesia was officially put into commercial grid-connected operation. As Indonesia’s key new energy distribution supporting project this year, the project simultaneously completed the full-scale power distribution grid connection transformation, booster station upgrade, and intelligent grid-connected control system construction, setting a standardized model for the power distribution supporting construction of large-scale reservoir floating photovoltaic projects in Indonesia.

Indonesia has abundant reservoir water resources, and floating photovoltaics are the core track for the country's new energy development. However, most of the past projects have been due to insufficient capacity of the original distribution network, poor grid connection adaptability, and weak dispatching capabilities, resulting in low photovoltaic power generation consumption rates and limited project income. While constructing power generation facilities, the Calangcades floating photovoltaic project will focus on promoting special upgrades of the distribution network, optimizing the regional distribution grid structure, adding new energy grid-connected power distribution equipment, and building an intelligent photovoltaic output dispatching system to solve power distribution problems caused by the intermittency and volatility of new energy.

The average annual power generation of the power station can reach 212 million kilowatt-hours. After being connected to the grid, it can provide clean power support for industry and people's livelihood in East Java. Relying on the implementation of this project, Indonesia has sorted out the standardized construction process, equipment selection standards and grid connection acceptance specifications for floating photovoltaic + distribution network upgrade, which will be fully applied to 257 planned reservoir floating photovoltaic projects across the country. The concentrated implementation of such projects in 2026 will continue to force the upgrade and transformation of Indonesia's grassroots distribution network, significantly improve the power grid's clean energy acceptance capacity, and accelerate the green transformation of the power distribution industry.
